Our best signing of the season?
Despite the obvious press that Payet is getting, keeping Reid, when most of us thought he was off, could well be the best signing this year.
Make such a difference to the whole defensive performance. Reads the game so well and was an absolute monster today against a very very good Man City forward line,
classy defender lad,

Too early to tell but if things carry on as they are Payet will be the clearest Hammer of the year we have ever had.

Bilic is of course a great signing, but a lucky one. The others have been excellent business.

REID did show dignity throughout.
I would expect nothing less from the greatest ever sporting New Zealander.

Griff....there's some bloke behind who went mental about Reid in one game when he made a mistake... FAT KEV really likes him too....anyway it went something like this

"You think you can play for a top club and West Ham too good for ya? Embarrassing.....Embarrassing.....Fucking Embarrassing....Embrassing.....Embarrassing....and you look like a paki"

Re: Our best signing of the season?
From the outside, whenever a top player is in the last year of their contract, it always looks like they're leaving. Purely due to the money they can demand elsewhere.

Maybe with the likes of Reid and De Gea signing new deals to stay recently, it's no longer a guarantee?

Re: Our best signing of the season?
To be fair, I don't recall Reid ever looking like leaving.

I recall him maintaining a dignified silence throughout negotiations whilst others made a load of undignified noise.

Re: Our best signing of the season?
I remember when it looked like Reid was definitely leaving and there was a huge amount of crap written about him on here. Most of it was trying to make it easier when he left but it was ridiculous.

Things like he was 'average at best', 'would never make it at a big club' etc.

Ever since the season he had in the Championship with us (which did him the world of good) Reid has been quality in the main. Losing him would have been a massive loss. Thankfully we didn't.

Re: Our best signing of the season?
Early signs are we had a very good window. Last season we had a decenet defence but little or no skill and, when Valencia was out, no pace either. We have addressed the skill aspect very effectively imo. Payet is a class act and Lanzini looks useful early doors. Obiang looks decent and Moses seems to have pace to spare. And I alos like the look of Ogbonna. But your comment about Reid is a very ggod one, particularly after his performance on Saturday.

Just picking up on your comment about Payet looking as good a player as any other in the PL.

I think for the first time in a long time we are seeing players who can now get into the better PL teams. Payet, Reid, Cresswell, Kouyate, Sakho.

This would not have happened previously and its down to Bilic and his team creating a great spirit, camaraderie and Confidence = Success = Confidence

We will have bumps along the way, but its much more positive now.

Even Danny Murphy was going on about how our passing in the first half was so good, he can see the confidence growing in the players.

Bilic is creating something here.

However I am still thinking we are only 24 more points from safety........

RBShorty. Exactly. Was just saying to the Mrs that I worry a scouse or similar come in for him. The hope Slaven has learned his lessons on that front

I can't see things going tits up with bilic at the helm he's everything I was hoping he would be.

All credit to the powers that be to have made so many great signings now we have a squad.
Payat in particular looks as a good player as any other in the PL

Yesterday was all about 11players giving it their all.

Long may it last.

I agree entirely... I know that Slaven's history would indicate otherwise and I may be naive but Bilic has said that, as a player, he had his best time at West Ham and he really does seem to have an affinity with the club.

I think and hope that he will be our Wenger and be at our club for a very long time. If he is still here in 10 years time it would mean that we were in a very good place indeed!!

(I posted something similar to the above pre-season so I am not just jumping on the bandwagon!)

I don't think extending Reid's contract was the best signing, but i believe it was the most significant.

I like most, thought he was definitely going to be off. In years gone by, he would of gone without a shadow of a doubt.

So Reid re-signing signified that we were heading in the right direction. The signings we've made since have vindicated this.

With regards to who has been the best signing, then Payet would be the obvious choice. But to be fair, all the signings have been very good. Add to this the appointment of Bilic, it would seem that the good times are here..

Now because of this positivity surrounding the club, I now fully expect Norwich to give us a fucking good hiding..

It's the West Ham way! ;-)

Somehow I think Slaven is the sort of person who would turn down a big european club as he has made a commitment.

Leaving the last time is still on his mind and somewhere I thought he had stated that leaving was a regret.

Hoping we have a long relationship together.
